Being a bit tired and shagged out after a lot of hog-roasting and an excellent if rather soggy gig for Continental Drifts at Lovebox Festival last weekend, this weekend we are limiting our selves to only 7 gigs, all of which should be rather special.
We are performing as part of the Barbican’s Extraordinary Voices festival, and will be playing SIX times, and all for free! Three gigs Saturday, three on Sunday and all details here – http://www.barbican.org.uk/weekender
And as if that wasn’t enough excitement for one weekend, we will be supporting the amazing AnDa Union, a 9 piece band from Inner Mongolia who are a truly world-class act with an amazing sound. They will also be performing on the Sunday at the Barbican (the free stage at 3.30pm) and then both bands will be travelling to the Strongroom Bar in Shoreditch for an early evening gig – TSMB will kick off at 7pm and AnDa Union will be on from 8pm. Probably the only time you’ll get to see live Balkan brass and Mongolian throat-singing, in an intimate venue, also entirely for free so please come down!
We are very pleased to announce a collaboration with DJ Yoda, one of the worlds finest and best loved DJs, for a series of shows over the summer. Our first live show went down a storm at Brixton’s Jamm – a fearsome mix of bass, beats and brass had the crowd going like we’ve never seen. It was a fantastic night (also featuring beatboxing legend Shlomo) so thanks Duncan for asking us to be part of your show and to everybody that came down for an epic gig. Whether it was 80s hip-hop mixed with Albanian wedding music, thunderous dubstep with tubas or scratch DJ vs Trombone duels to the death, it was more fun than you’d ever imagine you could have with a big lump of brass and a DJ. We’re also very pleased to say we’ll have another couple of big shows coming up with DJ Yoda the next of which is at The Roundhouse in Camden on Saturday 10th of September where he’ll be doing a full AV set in which we’ll be playing a part. It’s selling out quick so grab your tickets here! You can also read more about the collaboration in this interview on dontstayin.com
We’re honoured, and perhaps lightly terrified, to be opening the show for Balkan Brass legends Mahala Rai Banda at London’s Rich Mix in Bethnal Green on Thursday the 4th of August. Hailing from Romania and known for their virtuosic shows, you’ll probably have heard DJ Shantel’s remix of their tune Mahalageasca which was also featured in the soundtrack of “Borat” the movie. So whilst they’ll might eat us for breakfast, we’re none the less very excited to be supporting one of the best Balkan brass bands in the world. Grab yourself a ticket here for what promises to be an amazing night.
UPDATE – here’s a slideshow of our pics of from the night, and Mahala Rai Banda were truly magnificent!
